Epernay Tours

Where to Stay in Epernay

Stay where your tour starts. Most local tours meet at the tourist office on the avenue, some collect you from your door, and the days from Reims and Paris start in those cities. Choose your champagne tour epernay first, then the bed.

Stay where your tour starts

There are four sensible bases. This table sets each against where the tours meet, from the tours' own listings:

BaseWhere the tours startGetting to the startIt suits
Epernay centreThe tourist office, 7 avenue de ChampagneOn foot; the station is under 500 m awayAfternoon tours, the houses on foot
A village within 6 kmYour door, on the private half days and the jeepThey collect youA quiet stay among the vines
ReimsThe Reims Centre station forecourtOn foot in Reims; or the TER to Epernay, about 30 minutesDays from Reims, the cathedral
ParisYour hotel, or a Paris café at 7:00 amThey collect you; about 2 hours each wayOne day, no overnight

If you have a tour booked, match the base to it. If you do not, Epernay centre gives you the most choice, because the tourist office is where the local tours meet.

Know where you are staying?

Pick the tour that starts nearest: the tourist office, your own door, the Reims station forecourt or your Paris hotel.

Epernay centre: the station, the office and the avenue on foot

In the centre, everything is a walk. The station is under 500 m from the tourist office, through the Hôtel de Ville garden. The office is at 7 avenue de Champagne, and the houses start a few doors along.

From here you can walk to these starts:

So a room in the centre means no taxi and no car. You can also walk to the houses' own cellar tours between times.

A vineyard village

Stay in a village if you want the vines outside your window. The private half days collect you within 6 km of Epernay, or meet you at the tourist office or the station. The jeep collects you where you choose. The open-top bus picks you up inside Epernay on request.

Hautvillers is 6 km from town, with no station. So in a village you need a car or a tour for everything else. Vollereaux's cellar hour is in Pierry, just south of Epernay, and you make your own way there.

Reims, 30 minutes away

Reims is 27 km from Epernay. The TER “Ligne des Bulles” runs between the two every 30 minutes, in about 30 minutes, stopping at Aÿ on the way.

Stay in Reims if your tour starts there. The days to three family domains meet at the tourist office on the Reims Centre station forecourt at 9:20 am. The family wineries tour meets outside the same station exit. The e-bike day also collects you there, at 9:00 am.

Paris as a day trip

You can do Epernay in a day from Paris. Direct trains from Paris-Est take 1 hour 20. Or book a day from Paris: they collect you at your hotel, or meet at Café Dada Ternes at 7:00 am, and bring you back in the evening.

The days from Paris run 10 to 12 hours, with about 2 hours on the road each way. They cost $262 to $400 per person. Compare them on Epernay tours from Paris.

Taking the train and a local afternoon instead? The afternoon ends in the late afternoon, so check SNCF for the train back on your own date.

Arriving by car

If you drive in, leave the car for the day. On a tour, someone else drives, and nobody at your table has to skip the tasting.
