Epernay Champagne Tour Prices: What Each Fare Buys

An Epernay champagne tour costs anything from $19 to $632 per person, and two fares are for a whole vehicle. The number alone tells you little. This guide shows what each fare buys, from glasses and lunch to hours on the ground, so you can make your Epernay booking with the whole picture in front of you.

What does an Epernay champagne tour cost?

Per person, the fares start at $19 for an hour in Vollereaux's cellar in Pierry and $57 for two hours in the vintage van. A shared afternoon with growers costs $189 to $257, and a day from Reims $149 to $292.

The days from Paris cost $262 to $400. The private half days cost $298 or $333 per person, two minimum. The dearest per-person fare is the Moët & Chandon day on foot, at $632.

Two fares are for a vehicle: $229 for the jeep and up to three of you, and $1,521 for the Impériale bus and up to 15.

What do the houses charge at the door?

Less than any tour, because you bring yourself. Moët & Chandon's shortest visit costs EUR 48 for 1 hour 30 and two glasses. Mercier starts at EUR 25 for 45 minutes and one glass, and Nicolas Feuillatte, in Chouilly, at EUR 20.

A house fare buys the house and nothing else. You reach it yourself, and you taste that house's wines only. A tour's fare adds the transport, the guide, the booked slots and, on most, a family grower you could not easily reach alone.

Why do private tours cost more per person?

Because nobody shares the cost of the van. Aÿ-Champagne Experience sells the same kind of afternoon both ways. Its shared Bubble tour costs $189 per person, with up to eight people, a grower in Oger and three champagnes.

Its private Connoisseurs costs $333 per person, and your party is alone. It adds Hautvillers, pours six champagnes instead of three, and collects you within 6 km. For two of you that is $667 against $378.

Both private half days need two travellers, so a solo traveller cannot book them alone.

When is a fare per vehicle?

On the jeep and the Impériale bus. The jeep costs $229 whether one, two or three of you ride: about $76 each when it is full, and $114 each for a couple.

The bus costs $1,521 for up to 15 people, about $101 each when full. For a family or a team, that can come in under two seats each on a shared tour.

What does lunch add?

More than the meal, because the tours with lunch also run longer. Three pairs show it:

  • From Paris: Go Go Tours' small-group day costs $262 with lunch as free time. Its cathedral day costs $400 with a three-course lunch, and names a prestigious house.
  • From Reims: À La Française's two-winery tour costs $149 without lunch. France Intense's day costs $292 with lunch and a third estate.
  • From Epernay: the Bubble tour costs $189 without lunch. The afternoon with lunch costs $257 and pours five champagnes.

Where lunch is left out, budget for it. One traveller on Go Go Tours' small-group day found lunch was a group meal at EUR 50 each.

What do the Paris days cost per hour on the ground?

About four hours of every day from Paris go on the road, two each way. Take those off, and the fares look different:

  • Go Go Tours' small-group day: about 8 hours in Champagne, $32 an hour.
  • Blue Fox Travel: about 7 hours, $37 an hour.
  • Go Go Tours' cathedral day: about 7 hours, $57 an hour, lunch included.
  • My Winedays: about 6 hours, $62 an hour, lunch included.

For comparison, the afternoon from the Epernay tourist office costs $51 an hour, lunch included. Add a return train from Paris-Est, 1 hour 20 each way, to see which suits you.

What does a glass cost on each tour?

A rough measure, because a fare also buys the transport, the guide and sometimes lunch. Still, it shows where the wine is. Here are the tours that state their champagne count.

At the door, Moët & Chandon's EUR 48 visit comes to EUR 24 a glass. The private half days pour ratafia, fine and marc on top of their champagnes, which this table leaves out.

Which fares are non-refundable?

One. The Moët & Chandon day on foot cannot be cancelled or changed once booked. Every other tour refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before it starts.

My Winedays needs four travellers to run. If a date falls short, you are offered another date or a full refund.

What is not in the fare?

  • Tips: excluded on My Winedays', Blue Fox Travel's and À La Française's tours; Go Go Tours calls them optional.
  • Getting to the start: the local tours meet at the tourist office, and the Reims days at Reims station; France Intense leaves your train from Paris to you.
  • Other drinks and water: the afternoon with lunch excludes other drinks and bottled water.
  • Bottles: anything you buy at a cellar. On the vintage van, a bottle to saber yourself is EUR 15 per person.

Is the cheapest tour worth it?

For what it is, yes. Vollereaux's $19 buys 40 minutes in a family house's chalk cellar and three champagnes, but you make your own way to Pierry. The vintage van's $57 buys two hours on the road to Aÿ and Hautvillers with a tasting among the vines.

Neither takes you to a family grower's table. For that, the lowest fare is the Reims wineries tour at $149, or the Bubble tour at $189 from Epernay.

Do private tours need a minimum?
Aÿ-Champagne Experience's private half days are priced per person with a two-person minimum. The jeep and the Impériale bus are one fare per vehicle, for up to 3 and up to 15.
Should I tip the guide?
Tips are not in any fare, and they are your choice. Go Go Tours lists them as optional, and My Winedays, Blue Fox Travel and À La Française list them as excluded.
Can I cancel a booking?
